SearchKeegan Speaks Out on Wright Tue 28th Mar 2000 13:37 England manager Kevin Keegan has told Richard Wright that he must be playing Premiership football next season if he is to take his England career any further. Keegan was speaking prior to the England U21s play-off with Yugoslavia tomorrow in Barcelona (KO 6pm) which Wright is likely to start. If Town fail to win promotion Wright is now almost guaranteed to leave Portman Road in the close season with his price-tag the only question left to be answered. Over the years virtually all the top clubs have been rumoured to have an interest in Wright, who made his debut back in Town's days in the Premiership. Town have also been linked with keepers this season, most notably Shay Given, others mantioned include Barnet's Lee Harrison. Wright, who hopes to be part of the full squad for the European Championships in the summer, will have one year left on his current Town contract at the end of this season and Town will want to cash-in prior to his being available on a possible Bosman at the end of the 2001/2 season. | Scowy Very Doubtful Fri 10th Mar 2000 13:41 Town's man of the season so far, James Scowcroft is rated as very doubtful for tomorrow's game at Wolves. The other man missing from Tuesday's 0-0 draw with Blackburn, John McGreal stands a good chance of being fit, although George Burley may stick with Manu Thetis who had an impressive time against the Ewood Park side. Thetis and Fabian Wilnis were singled out for special praise by George Burley and both will be looking for starts at Molineux. Pressuring Wilnis will be Gary Croft who has now recovered from his gashed knee. Also nearing the first team is Mark Venus who came through the reserve game in the week, but is not considered fit enough to start tomorrow. Other centre-half injury problem Titus Bramble has also resumed training, although he is a long way from being fit for first team consideration. George Burley has told Marcus Stewart to be more selfish and to drop deep less. After two goals in his first two games Stewart has failed to find the net in his next three. Probable squad: R Wright, Branagan, Wilnis, Clegg, Clapham, Croft, Stockwell, Mowbray, Brown | McGreal Defintely Out Fri 03rd Mar 2000 13:26 Town centre-half John McGreal has been confirmed as missing from tomorrow's squad for the game with Portsmouth. Hot favourite for his position is Manu Thetis after he came through the reserve game on Wednesday with no ill effects despite a game marking Kevin 'Too Tall' Francis. If he isn't considered match fit enough Matt Holland could find himself at centre-half with Jermaine Wright coming into the midfield. The other contenders are Fabian Wilnis, who recently played a reserve game in the centre, and Gary Croft who has recovered quickly from his gash. Croft, however, is likely to return to his right wing back role with Michael Clegg dropping to the bench. Full squad: R Wright, Salmon, Clegg, Clapham, Wilnis, Stockwell, Croft, Mowbray, Brown, Thetis, Holland, Magilton, J Wright, Scowcroft, Johnson, Stewart, Naylor, Axeldal and Midgley. | Croft and Thetis to Show Fitness Wed 01st Mar 2000 19:53 Gary Croft and Manu Thetis are both out to prove their fitness in today'd reserve game at Oxford United. Crof has recovered far more quickly than expected from his gash sustained against Huddersfield whilst Manu is back after an ankle injury cut short the first game of his return from a hamstring problem. If they do well both could find themselves in the side for Saturday's game with Portsmouth. Croft in place of loanee Michael Clegg and Thetis in place of the injured John McGreal. French loanee Patrice Maurel plays his second game for Town's reserves. Full squad: 1. James Pullen 2 John Kennedy 3 Gary Croft 4. Manuel Thetis 5. Justin Miller 6. Chris Keeble 7. Patrice Maurel 8. Marco Holster 9. Jonas Axeldal 10. Neil Midgley 11. Sean Friars 12. Kevin Inglis 13. Tomi Niemi 14. Adam Miller 15. Richard Logan 16. Colm Daly. | Holland Signs New Deal/Tomorrow's Team News Fri 04th Feb 2000 13:16 Town skipper yesterday signed the deal which will tie him to Portman Road until 2004. The deal had been offered to him before Christmas and talks had progressed smoothly. Matt said: "It's taken a little while to tie up the loose ends but I was always confident we'd reach agreement. I am ambitious to play in the Premiership and I feel this could be our year. The club has the ambition to buy Marcus Stewart, but that made no difference to my decision. Everyone knows how much I enjoy playing for Ipswich Town." What a man! | Maurel Makes Reserves Debut Wed 02nd Feb 2000 13:23 French loanee Partice Maureal is amongst the Town reserve squad which meets Bristol City this afternoon (KO 2pm). Adam Tanner will presumably be watched by Colchester United and perhaps others looking to take him on a free. The full squad is: Mike Salmon, Fabian Wilnis, Stephen Moffat, Adam Tanner, Justin Miller, Marco Holster, Chris Keeble, Patrice Maurel, Richard Logan, Neil Midgley, Sean Friars, Kevin Inglis, Tomi Neimi, Adam Miller, Lee O'Neill, Colm Daly and William Snowdon | Stewart Fee Agreed! Mon 31st Jan 2000 20:57 Town and Huddersfield this afternoon agreed a fee of £3 million for Marcus Stewart. The 27-year old striker has spent this afternoon in Suffolk discussing terms with George Burley. | Holland Says No to Spurs Fri 28th Jan 2000 13:31 Town skipper Matt Holland has reacted quickly to dismiss talk of a move to Spurs. | Stewart-Naylor Quotes Wed 26th Jan 2000 16:38 Some of the relevant parties have made comments on today's big transfer news and it seems the deal is one that is being taken seriously by Huddersfield. Their manager Steve Bruce said: "We have had a firm inquiry from Ipswich to see | Squad for Swindon Fri 14th Jan 2000 17:52 Town are pretty much at full strength for tomorrow's match with ailing Swindon. David Johnson is back after suspension and Jim Magilton is available for selection after missing the game at Port Vale. Gary Croft is in the squad but is only expected to be a substitute with Mickey Stockwell replacing the suspended Fabian Wilnis. Full squad: R Wright, Salmon, Stockwell, Clapham, Croft, Mowbray, McGreal, Venus, Brown, Holland, Magilton, J Wright, Scowcroft, Johnson, Naylor, Axeldal, Midgley, Friars and Logan. |
